Glycemic Index and Glycemic Load Dietary Patterns and Risk of Breast Cancer: A Case-control Study

چکیده
Habitual consumption of a high glycemic index (GI) food causes postprandial increases in the blood glucose level, resulting in high insulin demand (Jenkins et al., 2002). The GI and GL, which considers both the quantity and quality of carbohydrate intake, have been shown to be related to chronic disease and increased risk of cancer (Patel et al., 2007; Jiao et al., 2009; Bao et al., 2010), including breast cancer (Lajous et al., 2005; Gnagnarella et al., 2008; Lajous et al., 2008; Larsson et al., 2009; Belle et al., 2011; Shikany et al., 2011). Pnm-28: Dietary Glycemic Index, Glycemic Load, and The Risk of Endometrial Cancer
Background Endometrial cancer is a hormone-dependent disease and has been consistently associated with obesity. Non genetic lifestyle factors may account for more than 75% of endometrial cancer cases and represent potential targets for prevention of this disease. Insulin resistance induced by diet may play a particularly pernicious role in the development of endometrial cancer, possibly by redu...
متن کاملDietary glycemic index and glycemic load, and breast cancer risk: a case-control study.
BACKGROUND Certain types of carbohydrates increase glucose and insulin levels to a greater extent than others. In turn, insulin may raise levels of insulin-like growth factors, which may influence breast cancer risk. We analyzed the effect of type and amount of carbohydrates on breast cancer risk, using the glycemic index and the glycemic load measures in a large case-control study conducted in...
متن کاملDietary glycemic index, glycemic load, and risk of incident breast cancer in postmenopausal women.
Insulin and insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) are associated with increased risk of breast cancer in several studies. Circulating concentrations of insulin increase with dietary consumption of high glycemic index foods, which, in turn, may influence IGF-I levels or activity, but the relevance of such dietary patterns for breast cancer risk is unclear. We investigated whether consumption of c...

متن کاملThe Relationship of Dietary Glycemic Index and Glycemic Load with Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Background and Objectives: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic intestinal disorder, which is characterized by irritating pain during defecation or alteration of the bowel habits. In the curent study, the association of dietary glycemic index (GI) and glycemic load (GL) with the risk of this syndrome, was investigated in a large population of Iranian adults. Methods: This cross-sectio...
